Where would the stockings be hanging tonight
If Christmas was make believe
who would be snuggling up to a fire
If there was no christmas eve

and with no caroling out in the snow
the true meaning is harder to see
but we keep the spirit alive if we just believe

Where would the presents go, where would they be
If there was no Christmas trees
would visions of sugar plums dance in our sleep
if this was just make believe

gathering round the piano at night
with nothing at all to sing
let’s all keep the spirit alive, can’t we just believe

deep in the heart of us all is the world
that is seen through the eyes of a child
and the tenderness of that innocence
makes this time of year so worthwhile

where would the families travel this year
why would they ever leave

well the truth of it all is so clear to me
and I’m not at all being naive
